Donating Your CDs & DVDs from Home!
With streaming services now part of everyday life, many households no longer use CDs or DVDs — yet boxes of discs often sit forgotten in cupboards, lofts, and spare rooms. If you no longer own a CD or DVD player, these items are simply taking up space that could be better used.

Instead of throwing them away, booking a doorstep collection is an easy, responsible way to declutter your home while doing something positive. Your unwanted CDs and DVDs can be reused, recycled, and turned into real environmental and social impact — all without you needing to leave the house.
Book a Collection! How to Book a CD & DVD Doorstep Collection
Booking a collection is quick and straightforward:
- Gather your CDs and DVDs
Pack your discs into bags or boxes. Cases can be included too — we’ll take care of sorting everything properly. - Book a free doorstep collection
Choose a convenient collection date and select a charity (or charities) you’d like to support. We share proceeds from your donations with your chosen causes. - Leave them outside for collection
On the day, simply leave your donations outside your property, clearly labelled for us to collect. There’s no need to be at home.
We’ll handle everything from there — saving you time, effort, and trips to recycling centres or charity shops that may not accept CDs and DVDs.
What Happens to Your Donated CDs & DVDs?
Each year in the UK, around 2,500 tonnes of CDs and DVDs are thrown away, even though many can be reused or recycled. Recycling options for discs are limited, and many charity shops don’t have the space to accept them — which is where our service helps.

Around 25% of the CDs and DVDs we collect are reused. These are rehomed or donated where they’re needed most, including to charities, schools, and community organisations.
The most in-demand discs include:
- Educational content
- Children’s films
- Video game discs
- Rare and retro titles
These affordable second-hand items help people access entertainment and educational materials they might not be able to afford new.
Recycling the Rest
Discs that can’t be reused — due to damage, surplus stock, incompatible formats, or unsuitable content — are responsibly recycled instead of sent to landfill.
How CDs & DVDs Are Recycled
- Collection & transport
We collect your discs directly from your doorstep and transport them to a central processing facility. Each year, we handle over one million discs. - Shredding & granulation
Cases and discs are shredded separately, then broken down into smaller pieces. - Separation & washing
Materials are separated and washed to remove impurities. - Pelletising & manufacturing
The cleaned materials are melted down and formed into pellets, ready to be used in the manufacture of new products.

What Are Recycled CDs & DVDs Turned Into?
CDs and DVDs are made from recyclable materials, including polycarbonate plastic, polystyrene plastic, and aluminium.
These materials are reused to make:
- Car headlights, dashboards, and instrument panels
- Reusable bottles and food containers
- Electronic casings (phones, tablets, laptops)
- Packaging materials and insulation boards
- Beverage cans, window frames, and kitchen utensils
Nothing goes to waste — your old discs help create something new.
